Our Mission
Why Conflict Brief Exists

Conflict Brief was built with a simple idea in mind: that international relations should be understandable, engaging, and accessible to anyone who wants to learn — not just academics or policy professionals. As someone who studied IR at the graduate level, I often found myself wishing there was a single place that combined rigorous analytical content with genuinely interactive ways to learn. That place did not exist. So I built it.

Most websites covering geopolitics either go too deep — academic papers inaccessible to the average reader — or not deep enough, offering news summaries without the analytical frameworks needed to truly understand what is happening. Conflict Brief sits in the middle: serious enough to be credible, accessible enough for a curious person with no IR background to follow and learn from.

What makes Conflict Brief different is not just the articles. It is the combination of analytical writing, an IR theory glossary, interactive quizzes and games, and live community polls — all in one place. Whether you are a student preparing for an exam, a professional wanting context for the news, or simply someone trying to make sense of a complicated world, Conflict Brief is built for you.

Nicholas Kozicki
Founder & Editor — Conflict Brief

Nicholas Kozicki holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Kennesaw State University and a Master of Social Sciences in International Relations and Regional Studies from the University of Tartu, Estonia. His MA specialization focused on European affairs — including EU integration, the ongoing tension between supranationalism and intergovernmentalism, and the political dynamics shaping the European Union's future.

Beyond European affairs, Nicholas's research interests span several areas of international relations: small state behavior and small state diplomacy, conflict resolution and peace processes, Transatlantic relations between Europe and North America, and non-state actors in international politics — the last of which formed the basis for Conflict Brief's first published article on narco organizations as IR actors.

Conflict Brief grew out of a recognition that the gap between academic IR theory and accessible public analysis was wider than it needed to be. Nicholas built this platform to bridge that gap — offering analysis, reference tools, and interactive content that makes international relations genuinely learnable for anyone, regardless of their background.

His research interests include European affairs and EU integration, small state diplomacy, conflict resolution, Transatlantic relations, and non-state actors in international politics — the last of which inspired Conflict Brief's first published article on narco organizations as IR actors.
